Full Schedule

Magick from old Scotland arrived in the Southern Appalachian Mountains of the United States in the early 18th century. While the unusual speech patterns of the region have been said to be Elizabethan, dialecticians and etymologists site Scotland as the source of the accent. Customs, folklore, charms, and magick--some of it centuries old--can be found in modern Scottish Pagan magick and in the folkways and folk magick of the Appalachians. We will cover:

  • Spells created in the Scottish tradition
  • Hoodoo, PowWow, and Granny Magick of the South
  • Charms evoking animal spirits
  • Discovering Scottish charms in traditional Highland and Mountain folk songs
  • Resources for further study now available thanks to technology
