Practicing magic, identifying as a Witch, or exploring spiritualities outside of the traditional spectrum all tend to be in conversation with meditation and mindfulness. But what does a meditation or mindfulness practice look like for someone practicing magic or Witchcraft? Many seekers will turn to dharmic traditions like Buddhism and its secular offshoots, but this is not always a perfect fit for us. What do you do when quieting the mind is crucial, but nirvana is not necessarily the goal?
In this class we will dive deeply into pathworking, visualization, and meditation techniques that are in conversation with magic, occulture, and Witchcraft. We’ll explore the rich traditions that have come down to us from classical and modern sources, as well as look at how we can build up and sustain our own mindfulness and meditation practices. We’ll examine how these practices connect to the practice of magic and the gods and probe the “why” behind focusing on the mind. Most importantly, we’ll explore how a lot of our preconceived notions of “meditation” don’t always mesh with our practice and how wild astral travels, psychedelic experiences, and deity-focused visualization journeys are all forms of mind-training for us, even if we aren’t sitting in silence.
